SEO basics and search engines (increase visits)

In this article you will find basic tips for SEO, ie search engine optimization.

1. Keep your website up to date according to your business or industry

In general, the most important thing is always the content of the site, which must be beneficial to its visitors. It is especially important to use keywords in the titles of your articles or pages. For example, if you sell shoes and make a special offer, you can write 3 names with different impacts, as shown below:

Title 1: Bid of the Week - This headline will bring visitors to your site who are looking for words like "bid" and "week", but will not lead them to what you are selling: shoes. In the end, you can get many visitors who are not interested in your product.

Title 2: Offer sports shoes - This title is better for those looking for "shoes". This is more convenient because the visits you get are from people who are really interested in your offer.

Title 3: Offer of sports shoes in London - This title is as effective as Title 2, but it narrows the results to those interested in the offer in the specific city/state/country that you described in the title.

2. Use your own domain name

Search engines look for relevance in site content as well as site domain name. So if you have built a reputable brand, an effective strategy is for your domain name to include your brand.

If you haven't created a brand name yet, it may be better to describe your business or industry in the domain name (for example, ShoesLondon.com or LondonBoots.com).

You can register your domain with us according to the instructions here.

3. Name your pictures

A search engine without an image description cannot recognize what is in the image. If you add a description to the image, it will be included in the image search, which many sites do not currently use - in practice, the keywords in the image title may have a greater impact than the keywords entered in the project's SEO settings.

4. Link your site to the Google Search Console

Once you have the relevant content and register a domain name, it pays to verify your site with Google so that you can start "indexing" it.

See how to verify your site, our instructions here.

If you want to learn more about optimization directly in Google, we recommend, for example, courses from Google Digital Garage.

5. Effective use of social networks

Keeping in touch with your visitors, customers and partners is important and the effective way is to use social networks. There are many social networks, but we will focus on Facebook, which is one of the most popular. On Facebook you can create a page for "Fans" of your website, something similar to our fan page Webnode, which you can see here.

To learn more about Facebook fan pages you can use the direct help from Facebook.

Once you've created a Facebook page, you can place a "Like" button on your site to make your visitors a fan of your site. Instructions for adding a "Like" button to your Webnode project can be found here.

6. Check the mobile version of the site

Many users now use their smartphones on the Internet - a trend that is growing more and more worldwide, and it is important that the site on the phone looks good.

Webnode editor offers fully responsive designs, so the page adapts automatically to the phone, but we recommend checking the appearance even in such a way that, for example, images and larger elements are displayed nicely and navigation on the page is pleasant for users.

You can easily perform the check on a PC by reducing the browser window to the size of a mobile phone.

CAUTION: When optimizing your site for search engines, you should avoid fraudulent practices (such as hidden text and links, stolen content, or auto-generated content) that result in conflicting results and may result in the site being blocked from appearing on search engines.
